While most offensive linemen are not fast, you can teach them to play fast.  These 4 drills will help you to do that.  Offensive Coordinator and Co-Offensive Line Coach Mike Curtis (Warsaw Community High School in Indiana) is the presenter in our video.

The excerpt is taken from his Glazier Drive Clinic " Welcome to O-Line Practice: A Week of Drills, Preparation, Film, & Philosophy to Ready Our Flexbone Linemen for Battle"

Make sure to check the notes below the video for Coach Curtis' key teaching points.

  • The drills in the video are "Veer Drill," "Half Line Wars," "Scoop Drill," and "Scoop Tracking Drill"

  • Warsaw utilizes 2 offensive line coaches because of how important that unit is.

  • The head coach has to provide the oline coaches the time to rep technique and run everyday drills.

  • Make 5 play like 9!

  • The coaches grade every play from every game.  They also have the players do the grading from time to time on Saturday mornings.  They grade players on "Loafs" and take pride in having zero loafs as a unit.

  • They also track knockdowns and pancakes.

  • They create fun rewards that fit their program such as "Wild Hog of the Week," "Earn Your Tusk," "Earn Your Shirt," "Pantheon of Pancakes," "House of Hog."

  • Instill nastiness and pride in being a hog.  In every drill and every rep, promote the belief that the OLine is going to be nasty on every snap.  "Finish with a shove," "NO LOAFS," "Make the TD Block."
