You can view the entire NDSU Special Forces: Special Teams Competition Drills & Technique (Kick Off, Kick Off Return, Punt, Punt Return) clinic on Glazier Drive.

In the one on one Strike Force Drill:

  • If there is space between the ball carrier and the blocker, the kickoff coverage man avoids the block with speed and breaks down on the ball carrier.

  • If there is no space between the blocker and the ball carrier, the cover team mus fit up and two gap the blocker, then finish by getting off the block and fit up on the returner.

  • The coaches determine a winner and a loser for each rep of the drill.  The wins and losses for each player is posted on a chart that is shown in the video.

  • The wins and losses from drill helps to determine who should be on the cover and return team.  You can also quickly see by looking at the results chart who is taking a lot of reps on the drill and who is not.  All players are expected to compete in this drill.

  • By posting the chart and showing the results in team meetings, it makes for a competitve atmposphere among the players.
