Teaching the Pass Rush Dance - Winston DeLattiboudere

Written by Glazier Football | Feb 2, 2024 10:18:50 PM

Winston DeLattiboudere (aka Coach DeBo) is the Defensive Line Coach at the University of Minnesota.

His goal is 10,000 reps of pass rush moves that fit each individual lineman's body type.  Their rule is no new moves or surprises on game day.  They only use moves in the pass dance that they have prepared to use in practice.

The pass rush dance is part 8 of the 10 part system Coach DeBo's DL Keys to Victory.  You can find all 10 sessions on Glazier Drive.

Enjoy!!

Some of the key moments from the video:

  • Each individual lineman at Minnesota has a speed move, a power move and a counter .  The moves are all based off of body type.  If you're a speed rusher, you might have 2 speed moves and a counter.  A power rusher might have 2 power moves and a counter.  A balance rusher who can do both, will have three moves and a cureball or switch-up.

  • Coach DeBo does not want players to go into a game being predictable.  He wants them to go into the game confident in their moves and their preparation.

  • Coaches need to always label the moves and teach them by name.  It enhances communication, and speeds up the processes of teaching, and learning.

  • The Minnesota pass rush mantra is "Finish the play unblocked."

  • The defensive linemen must be able to run sideline to sideline to finish the play.
