The video below is an excerpt from Multiple Ways to Utilize Cover 3 in the 4-3 Defense on Glazier Drive.

Positives of playing cover 3

🏈Balanced vs. Run or Pass
🏈Allows you to have an 8 man box
🏈It's simple and allows guys to play fast

Negatives of playing cover 3

🏈You must have a good defensive line
🏈Short passing game and 4 vertical passing game can be problematic
🏈You can't just be a cover 3.  You have to mix it up.

Drop Spots in cover 3

  • 2 hook curl players (strong and weak)
  • 2 curl flat players (strong and weak)
  • Outside shoulder, 45 degree angle, the hook curl or curl flat will be 8 to 12 yards
  • Country cover 3-nobody behind you in your 3rd of the field

  • There are gaps outside of the tackles (Crease, Alley, Outside)
