Greg Jones, Defensive Coordinator, University of Central Missouri dives in to a portion of his defensive system that mixes blitzes and stunts to create chaos for opposing offenses.
You'll learn how to craft unpredictable defensive schemes that will leave quarterbacks scrambling, disrupt offensive lines, and give your team the edge it needs to dominate on every down.
The video is from Coach Jones Glazier Drive 3-3-3 "Wreak Havoc" Safety Defense System. This lesson is on Line Stunts & Blitzes out of the 3-3
Some notes from Coach Jones' presentation
When we stuff the center, we want him to go through the middle of the center and reset or recreate the line of scrimmage by pushing the center backward.
For a weak slant, you're going to take half of the man with you. We want you to get into the gap, but not just run through and let the offensive lineman release to the linebacker. For example, if they’re running zone and you slant, you should take half of the center with you into the gap. You’ll be playing off the guard, reacting to his movement, whether he's coming into you, double-teaming, or pulling.
The defensive ends can also slant strong or weak. If they slant strong, they are already on the strong side. They react off the tackle’s movement: squeezing if the tackle blocks down, fighting the reach block if he goes out, or skipping inside if needed. Similarly, the defensive ends follow the same slant rules: take half the man, react to the guard, and don't just run upfield.
In pass-rush situations, especially on the blind side of the quarterback, we teach our players to attack the back shoulder to force the quarterback up into the pocket. The goal is to maintain contain and avoid letting the quarterback escape by spinning out of pressure.
