6 Game-Like Special Teams Drills to Improve Circuit Efficiency - Aman Anand

It is always a challenge to find a variety of drills that rep the skills that you want your players to apply during a game.

In the video below, Aman Anand, Special Teams Coordinator at Grambling State, presents six special teams drills that he has used at his various stops during his career.

The drills in the video are:

1. BLA (Block, Leverage, Awareness) Kickoff coverage drill.  The purpose of the drill is to identify and read the front-line blocks--going off the butt side of the front line blockers.
   
   
2. 1/2/3 Kickoff coverage drill.  2 lines--kickoff cover and kickoff return.  Blocker goes to one of 3 cones and cover player must adjust technique.
   
   
3. Compression Technique.  Final phase of kickoff coverage. Hands on the blocker, thumbs up, hands inside, then get to the blocker.  Between 25 yard line and the goal line.
   
   
4. Relative Spacing Drill.  Punt Coverage drill for frontline players--guards and tackles.  Teaches proper coverage spacing.
   
   
5. Spicer Vice Drill. Tackling drill for both punt and kickoff coverage.
   
   
6. Backside Fold Drill.  Backside punt coverage.  Returner has declared and the coverage players work on proper angles.
