Saugus High School (CA) Head Coach Jason Bornn takes you through some game clips with a little chalk talk regarding a Blitz he calls "Sower." It is a six man pressure out of and odd front with zero coverage.
You might not be able to use all of the techniques in this video, but hopefully there are some ideas that will stimulate your thinking as to how you can build upon and enhance what you are doing.
The video shows both the good and the mistakes in the Sower Blitz. You have an idea on what mistakes you will need to look for and coach.
Coach Bornn's clinic on 6-Man Pressure & Zero Coverage is one piece of the 3-4/4-2-5 High Pressure Defense System.
Thoughts on Zero Coverage
Zero Blitz--no post defender, you have no deep safety or post defender.
In Zero Coverage--the corners cover the #1s (widest receiver on each side), safeties cover the #2s (next receiver closest to the ball).
The #3 (Running Back) responsibility varies between Sam, Mike, Will, and their "Rush."
All of that allows them 6 man pressure.
It is essential to clearly articulate to your players who is covering #1, who has #2, and who has #3.
The most important fundamental is communication from coaches to players and among players.
You need to have your motion adjustments. Will you bump? Will you chase across?
